KABUL: At least 62 Taliban insurgents were killed and 58 others wounded during crackdowns carried out by the Afghan security forces in several provinces in the past 24 hours.

The ministry of defense said in a statement on Monday that the raids were conducted in Laghman, Ghazni, Zabul, Balkh, Herat, Faryab, Farah and Badakhshan provinces. The security forces defused 12 rounds of mines planted by the Taliban to target the civilians, the ministry said, adding that some weapons and ammunition of the militants were seized in the operations.

The armed conflicts have been rising across the country amid the international forces withdrawal from Afghanistan that also brought deep concerns among the citizens.
