KABUL: First Vice President, Amrullah Saleh praised the arrest of the three Senators on the charges of taking bribes in the northern province of Balkh. Saleh said in a statement that “thrilling arrests” to be continued, referring to corrupt officials, where there is no place to hide

“Three Senators were arrested while trying to take tens of thousands of dollars in bribes,” he added.

According to him, the security forces were previously able to seize 250,000 dollars of bribe, but unfortunately failed to make solid evidence. “This means the process of proof based arrest has been continuing,” he said.

Earlier, the Attorney General Office reported the detention of three Senators of the upper house of the parliament (Mishrano Jirga) who were trying to take bribes.

The crackdown on the Senators was conducted by the National Directorate of Security in coordination with AGO’s employees.

Balkh Governor Farhad Azimi said that the Senators arrived from Kabul to evaluate the government departments’ activities in the province.

Moreover, four officials in the ministry of public health have been detained on charge of corruption by the National Directorate of Security.  A government official, who was talking on condition of anonymity, said that two of the detainees were close relatives to the public health minister, Jawad Osmani. Another two officials were advisors to the minister.
