KABUL: The Taliban have set 700 attacks from several directions on Lashkarga, the capital city of southern Helmand province, military officials said. Commander of 215 Maiwand corps, Sami Sadat said that the al-Qaeda fighters also jointed the Taliban rebel in fighting against the Afghan security forces in Helmand. “At least 20 al-Qaeda fighters were killed in three weeks of Helmand clashes,” he added. The Taliban have recently attacked Lashkarga and clahses between the security forces and militants reached to the PD 3 of the city.Officials said that 4,500 families have been displaced from the residences in the recent clashes and were shifted to secure areas of Lashkarga.Taliban intensified their attacks on Lashkarga following the announcement of the drawdown of US troops in a bid to gain more privileges at the negotiating table but the peace talks have not resulted in permeant ceasefire and durable peace in the war-torn country and the talks faced obstacles.
